Business customers that rely on us for full gas service can expect to see bills that are, on average, 29 percent to 35 percent lower compared to 2010. This is based on two primary drivers:
Falling natural gas prices the last decade and improved productivity by Consumers Energy. During the last 10 years, the natural gas fuel price has dropped, thanks to more supply and increased productivity. We are making substantial improvements to our gas system's reliability and implementing enhanced technology. This includes replacement of aging distribution pipe such as cast iron, bare steel and threaded and coupled mains.
The cost of the gas commodity is expected to be lower beginning in April. Gas Customer Choice customers receive gas supply from an alternative gas supplier and may not be subject to these lower prices, depending on contract terms. Consumers Energy makes no profit on the costs of gas sold to our full-service customers.
